Research Associates (m/f/d)

We offer several positions in the following fields:

  • RF Design Enablement
  • Wireless Connectivity
  • ASIC implementation and scalable hardware & software development
  • Distributed IOT server architecture and Mobile Edge Cloud

We aim at attracting the best talents in their respective research fields and expect the following:

  • Above-average MSc or PhD degrees in areas related to our research focus (Electrical/Computer Engineering) from renowned universities
  • good communication and writing skills in English,
  • an integrative and cooperative personality with excellent communication and social skills.

Candidates’ field of expertise should match one of the fields

  • RF Design Enablement: Strong technical knowledge and preferably research experience in RF passive circuit (e.g. antenna arrays, couplers, power splitters) design and characterization in standard substrates; experience with 3D EM simulation tools. Candidates with additional experience in silicon-based RF active circuit/module design will be preferred.
  • Wireless Connectivity:  Strong technical knowledge in communications and coding theory, particularly in wireless communications PHY/MAC; Familiarity with 3GPP and IEEE 802.11 standards; Knowledge in one of the following research topics desirable: PHY security, spectrum sensing, URLLC; Experience with the development of simulation software for communications; programming skills in one or more of the following: Python, Matlab, C++
  • ASIC implementation/scalable hardware & software development: Experience with complete ASIC implementation flow with focus on one or multiple of the following – RTL synthesis, DFT insertion, design planning, physical optimization, timing analysis / closure, and design integrity checking through tape-outs with IC design software tools (Cadence, Synopsys)
  • Distributed IOT server architecture and Mobile Edge Cloud: Experience with device connectivity to the cloud; strong understanding of security across device, connectivity, cloud and user access; strong background in programming languages
  • Secure OS: Experience in developing operating systems (OS) and device drivers, preferably in a microkernel context; strong knowledge of OS concepts and low-level programming in C/C++/assembly language; strong understanding of security concepts and system architectures

RF Hardware Engineer (m/f/d)

We expect the following

  • Above-average MSc/Diploma degrees in areas related to our research focus (Electrical/Computer Engineering) from renowned universities.
  • Good communication and writing skills in English.
  • An integrative and cooperative personality with excellent communication and social skills.
  • Technical knowledge about how electrical circuits and components work.
  • Prior experience with electrical-design-automation (EDA) tools.
  • Candidate with prior board-design or analog circuit layout experience will be preferred.

You will join a team of enthusiastic scientists who creatively pursue our research agenda. Your responsibilities will include

  • Architect layout plans for analog and mixed signal boards in multi-layer package
  • Perform multi-layer module/board layouts for integrated systems
  • Implementation and optimization of layouts of analog circuits in silicon-based process

Training to perform above tasks will be given as needed.

Security & Privacy Researcher (m/w/d)

We expect the following:

  • Above-average MSc/Diploma or PhD degree in areas related to our research focus (Computer Science with special focus on IT-security & privacy) from renowned universities
  • Good communication and writing skills in English
  • An integrative and cooperative personality with excellent communication and social skills
  • Excellent knowledge in the fields of IT-security and privacy-enhancing technologies with special focus on Internet of Things, Cloud Computing (especially Edge Clouds) and 5G
  • Prior experience regarding theoretical analysis of privacy properties as well as formal security proofs would be highly appreciated
  • Knowledge or even research experience in the field of privacy-respecting artificial intelligence / big data processing will be very valuable
  • A candidate with prior research experience in designing and developing solutions in the field of IT-security and privacy enhancing technologies will be preferred

You will join a team of enthusiastic scientists who creatively pursue our research agenda. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Design and development of tailored security and privacy solutions for specific use-cases and application domains
  • Creation of more general frameworks and models for enabling security and privacy in the domain of Internet of Things
  • Analysis and evaluation of existing security and privacy solutions
  • Participation in writing project proposals, project management and creating project deliverables

Digital IC Design Engineer (m/f/d)

We expect the following:

  • Above-average MSc/Diploma degrees in areas related to our research focus (Electrical/Computer Engineering) from renowned universities.

  • Knowledge in programming with C/C++, Python, Verilog/VHDL.
  • Experience of SoC design flow including software tools from Cadence and Synopsys.

You will join a team of enthusiastic scientists who creatively pursue our research agenda. Your responsibilities will include

  • Design and development of digital hardware for ASIC and FPGA implementations
  • HDL simulation and verification including embedded software programming
  • Support of SoC design projects through tape-out with focus on one or multiple of the following: RTL synthesis, DFT insertion, verification/testing, design planning, physical optimization, timing analysis/closure, design integrity checking

Studentische Hilfskraft (m/w/d) für Realtime Wireless Connectivity Development

für unser Connected Robotics Labor. Das Connected Robotics Labor ist Teil des Barkhausen Instituts, einem neu gegründeten Forschungsinstitut. Wir bauen Showcases für Technologieprototypen mit Wow-Effekt. Unsere Themen sind Ultra Low Latency, Security & Privacy im Kontext des Internets der Dinge (IoT).

Das Projekt

Einer unserer Arbeitsbereiche ist Realtime Wireless Connectivity im Kontext des autonomen Fahrens und IoT. Wir entwickeln, realisieren und setzen ein Kommunikationssystem ein, das den „ultra-low latency“ und „high-reliability“ Anforderungen standhält.

Deine Aufgaben

  • Unterstützung bei der Entwicklung des Realtime Wireless Kommunikationssystems
  • Erstellung von Simulationsmodellen (Python)
  • Durchführung von Messungen und Auswertung der Messergebnisse

Deine Fähigkeiten

  • Studium der Informatik, Elektrotechnik oder vergleichbar
  • Programmierkenntnisse in Python
  • Basiswissen im Bereich Nachrichtentechnik
  • C++ Kenntnisse von Vorteil
