PRESS RELEASE: Event on endoscopy at the COSMO Science Forum
On the occasion of Gastrointestinal Day on 7 November 2024, Barkhausen Institut invites you to join in on a hands-on offer from 1:00 pm to 7:30 pm at COSMO Science Forum. The physician Dr. Franz Brinkmann, University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden, uses two simulators to show how gastroscopies and colonoscopies work. He explains why colonoscopy is currently the most reliable method for the early detection of colon cancer and answers questions: What is an endoscopy and how does it work? Why is a colonoscopy so important for colorectal cancer screening? What happens during a gastroscopy and how do these examinations work?
On this day, visitors can try out an endoscope themselves on the simulator under the guidance of Dr. Brinkmann. They will learn about the examinations first-hand. Dr. Brinkmann will be available to answer questions from interested journalists on this day.
The event is part of the “Talk about Endoscopy!” project funded by the Volkswagen Foundation and is part of the program accompanying the current exhibition “Dr. Zukunft – Medical technology from Dresden Science” at COSMO Science Forum.
Admission is free. Pre-registration is not necessary.
The project “Talk about Endoscopy!” is a cooperation between the Barkhausen Institut and the Else Kröner Fresenius Center (EKFZ) for Digital Health, Faculty of Medicine Carl Gustav Carus, TU Dresden. It shows the research of the NGScopes – Next Generation Endoscopy working group on innovative tools for laparoscopic surgery. The working group, consisting of doctors and engineers, develops cost-effective, electronically controlled flexible devices with assistance functions.
