IT Pain Points in Everyday Hospital Life

As part of the exhibition „Dr. Zukunft – Medical Technology from Dresden Science“ at the COSMO Science Forum in Dresden’s Kulturpalast, the Barkhausen Institut hosted a discussion workshop on January 20, 2025, focusing on "IT Pain Points in Everyday Hospital Life."

The workshop brought together physicians, nursing staff, IT specialists, and researchers to discuss the challenges of integrating medical IT systems into daily hospital operations. These challenges range from technical issues, such as poor interoperability between different hospital IT systems, to regulatory hurdles that complicate implementation.

The session opened with four physicians from two Dresden hospitals sharing their firsthand experiences with IT-related obstacles in clinical practice. Their insights set the stage for a deeper discussion.

Adding another practical perspective, two staff members from the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden shared their experiences in implementing new IT systems and modules in hospital care.

The discussion was further enriched by three researchers from the Center for Medical Informatics and the Else Kröner Fresenius Center for Digital Health, who contributed expertise in interoperability, usability, technology acceptance, and psychobiology in the context of digitalization.

This lively exchange of ideas helped forge valuable new connections, laying the groundwork for potential future collaborations between IT and medicine.

Ultimately, the goal is to improve the quality and efficiency of patient care through better integration of digital technologies in hospitals.
