Barkhausen Institut

CoRoLa settles into new, modern facilities

In November, the Barkhausen Institut's Connected Robotics Lab (CoRoLa) opened its new laboratory, measurement, and manufacturing facilities in the heart of Dresden's city center. All BI employees were invited to explore the new laboratory space to try out interactive demonstrators, witness digital fabrication machines in action and discover exciting measurement setups. The event also fostered a lively exchange of new project ideas between the institute's various research groups in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the new facilities enhance the role of the Connected Robotics Lab as a key infrastructure and research unit of the Barkhausen Institut. The workshops are particularly impressive for their high level of vertical integration, i.e. enabling the team to perform many manufacturing steps independently in-house. Combined with comprehensive technical research equipment, the lab allows for practical testing and discussion of scientific approaches in real-world scenarios.

CoRoLa’s work is diverse, spanning from the creation of interactive demonstrators for scientific conferences and public exhibitions, to the development of complex measurement and research setups, and even the production of complex prototypes for robotics.

The lab’s proximity to the institute’s offices in the neighboring building significantly improves collaboration with researchers and fosters professional exchange. Additionally, the shorter distance to the COSMO Science Forum at the Kulturpalast strengthens networking opportunities and and allows for more flexible collaboration.
