On 7 May 2022, the Kulturpalast Dresden celebrated its fifth anniversary of reopening with an open day where visitors could experience science up close in the foyer from 11 am to 5 pm. The Barkhausen Institut and the Chair of Industrial Design Engineering at TU Dresden presented interactive prototypes and provided insights into the latest technologies and research findings.
Highlights included the robot air hockey, which illustrated the importance of real-time communication, the surf demo, which brought the future of smart clothing to life, and the Haptic Lab, in which vibration feedback for haptic feedback could be felt on the body.
More than 50 interested visitors became part of the first intensive exchange between science and urban society at the Kulturpalast.
As a new space with interactive exhibitions on current Dresden research for the general public was to be created in the coming months, visitors were involved in the planning right from the start during the festival week. A feedback wall was set up to collect ideas and wishes for the new knowledge space.
As the operator of this space, the Barkhausen Institut, together with the partners of the Kulturpalast, planned to offer researchers and citizens the opportunity to get in touch with each other and experience research in a variety of ways.
This open day laid the foundation for the ongoing dialogue between science, culture and urban society at the Kulturpalast.
