Exploring Future Medical Technology
The hands-on offer “A look inside: try out and understand endoscopy in a playful way” on the occasion of Gastrointestinal Day on 7 November 2024 at COSMO Science Forum was an absolute highlight within the “Dr. Future – Medical technology from Dresden Science” exhibition. A total of 55 visitors showed great interest in trying out a gastroscopy and colonoscopy on two simulators under the guidance of a doctor. The physician Dr. Franz Brinkmann, University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden, explained how these examinations work and why colonoscopy is currently the most reliable method for the early detection of colon cancer.
This event was part of the “Talk about Endoscopy!” project funded by the Volkswagen Foundation. The project is a cooperation between the Barkhausen Institut and the Else Kröner Fresenius Center (EKFZ) for Digital Health, Faculty of Medicine Carl Gustav Carus, TU Dresden. It shows the research of the NGScopes – Next Generation Endoscopy working group on innovative tools for laparoscopic surgery. The working group, consisting of doctors and engineers, develops cost-effective, electronically controlled flexible devices with assistance functions.
