Second major project meeting of CYMEDSEC
On 11 September, members of the BI attended the second general-assembly meeting of the CYMEDSEC project, hosted by the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus in Dresden, Germany. CYMEDSEC is an EU-funded project that develops cybersecurity standards following the “security-by-design” approach based on evidence from real-world cases.
It also develops secure solutions for the Internet-of-Medical-Things (IoMT) devices. Those are internet-connected medical gadgets and equipment that collect, transmit, and analyze health data to improve patient care and streamline healthcare processes.
Within CYMEDSEC, BI will enhance its secure-by-default computer architecture and operating-system platform M³. The goal is to adapt this platform to medical-device use cases by developing hardware and software building blocks for secure communication and software update processes. Those capabilities are essential for safe, secure, and maintainable IoMT systems.BI also investigates methods for detecting malicious modifications made to hardware circuitry during manufacturing, as well as the effects of hardware side channels, thereby ensuring that no "trojan horses" can hide in medical devices or leak confidential data.
During the meeting, the CYMEDSEC partners discussed the progress made during the first 10 months of the project and the next steps.
